PREVENTION OF CRUELTY
MEETING OF WELLINGTON
SOCIETY. The monthly meeting of the committee of the Wellington Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held on Tuesday, and in the absence of the president, Mr. W. Cole presided over a full attendance of members. A letter was received from the Canterbury Society asking for co-operation in an endeavour to prevent freak and deformed animals from being exhibited at side-shows at A. and P. Shows, lhe secretary was instructed to write to the secretaries of the various A. and P. Shows in this district, asking for their co-operation in this matter. Mr. A. Stevens, Johnsonville, reported on the success of the annual essay competition and made some suggestions for future competitions. It was de■cided to keep these suggestions in view for the next competition. The inspector reported a number ot cases that had come under his notice, some of which were of a nature where proceedings had to be taken. The collector reported that he had received subscriptions amounting to £llO 16s. sd. for the months of December and January.
