Singles.—Borotra beat Hopman. 2—6, 6—l, 6—3; Brugnon beat Crawford, 3 —6, f 7—5, 6—5. Tn the match against Hopman. Borotra started off uncertainly, not playing with his usual dash. He seemed worried by flies, and tho cross wind, but in the 0 second set he gauged the strength of his opponent, and made more determined j rnsWAs to the net. continually forcing •* Kopman on the defensive. As the game , progressed it grew faster. Borotra . crowding on the pace, volleying and 0 smashing with great vigour. Hopman’s speed was also very fast, and his nass- _ ing shots so accurate they often kept Borotra back from the net. ' Both Brugno.n and Crawford plnved carefully, but there wcr° some sparkling rallies. Many of Crawford's shots went astray, and the Australian seemed to ' lack control towards the finish, the Frenchman outplaying him.
