CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING. Keen interest is being displayed over the athletic and cycling championship of the Wellington province, which will be decided on Saturday. ’With the highclass talent available in the province, no additional draw would be necessary to ensure a day of thrills, but in addition to the appearance of all \the track and field stars, the two Australian cyclists, .1. Standen and D. Gray, both of whom have been selected to represent -Australia at the Olympic Games, will bo makine their initial appearance cn the local tracks. Standen is the amateur cvclinii champion of Australia, and in his riding in Now Zealand has already shown that he has retained his Australian form. Amongst the stars defending titles will be Jenkins. Fleming. Sutherland. Scents, Munro, and Oakley. To enable the huge programme to be successfully completed, it. has been decided to run' one series of championships on Athletic Park in the afternoon, and the second session on the Basin 'Reserve at night. Prices remain at the usual charge of one shilling entrance, and cne shilli.ng for the stand. The Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, in response to a request from the New Zealand Council, has nominated C. M. Olsen, who was second in the New Zealand and Australian 880yds. championship, for a place in the New Zealand team for the Olympic Games.
