UNFAIRNESS ALLEGED
MUNICIPAL TRADING. Dominion Special Service. Christchurch, February 8. Alleging that an Act of Parliament which gave municipal electricity departments, or power boards, preference over a lien was unjust, and enabled them to undercut and underquote private firms, a representative of a. Christchurch company wrote to the Christchurch Builders’ Association urging that it unite with the Allied Trades’ Association, and endeavour to have the Act repealed. 'The president (Mr. G. D. Simpson): "It doesn’t affect tho builder much, because he is supposed to be financial. It is a matter for tho Allied Building Trades’ Association.” Mr. W. H. Winsor (secretary)"The municipal electricity department takes our money, and competes against us. It’s unfair. Its business should be to sell as much power as possible, not enter into competition with other trading Concerns. The letter was referred to the Allied Building Trades’ Association.
