YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES

At the morning call yesterday sales were reported of Bank of Australasia at i'll 145., National Bank of New Zealand at £7, and Westport-Stockton (ordinary) at Is 2d. Sales reported at the afternoon call were 4J per cent, stock (1939) ■ t £97, and Union Bank at £l4 14s. Government securities were firm, with au upward tendency. The -1J per cents, were wanted at £97, the 44 per cents, at £9S 17s. 6(1., and the 54 per cents, at £lOl. Wellington Gas (debentures) were in firm demand at £‘JJ Ids., -Wanganui City (57 per cent.) were wanted at £lO9, and. Makerua Drainage (0 per cent.) also at £lOO. Bank shares were in firm demand. There were buyers of Bank of Australasia at £l4 135., Commercial Bank at 275., Commercial Bank (rights) at 7s. Id., Bank of New Zealand at 5Ss. (id., Union Bank at —l4 135., National Bank of Australasia (£lO paid) at £l7 14s„ and £5 paid at £8 16s Sellers quoted £7 Is. for National Bank of New Zealand shares.
