FREE AMBULANCE
MEETING OF BOARD AUGMENTING THE FUNDS The Wellington Free Ambulance Board held its monthly meeting last night, Sir. C. J. £. Norwood presiding. Sir. S. G. Nathan, representing the Hutt County, attended. The rates committee reported that it had not completed the work of calling on prominent citizens for donations. The Fletcher Construction Company had donated £lOO, and probably sufficient funds would be collected to enable another suitable ambulance to be obtained. The British Medical Association notified that the secretary of the Postal Department had been asked to preface the list of doctors in the telephone directory with a notice that the Free Ambulance could be rung up for an address of a doctor who might be available, where the regular medical attendant was not. A list of doctors likely to be at home was enclosed. Commenting on the receipts for December and January—£lo4s 2s. 6d.— the chairman remarked on the increasing public support, and said the movement was progressing nicely, but further funds would be needed, as the expenditure was £275 a month, and additional ambulances were required. The question of augmenting and consolidating the funds was referred to the finance committee to report on. It was reported that the staff was 'doing excellent work, and that the calls numbered about 100 a week, including 25 accidents. The service is to be available for ealls connected with big picnics; also for the removal of maternity cases to St. Helens Hospital on receipt of a message from the matron.
