DAIRY PAY-OUTS
MASTERTON COMPANY.

At the monthly meeting to-day of the Masterton Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., it was reported that the working balance of the compay was £11,200, but a pay-out of Is. 2d. would absorb £11,280 for January butter-fat. The butter-fat received for January amounted to 193,383 lbs., as against 164,693 lbs. for the corresponding period of last year, an increase of 28,689 lbs., or 17J per cent. It was stated that the season was hanging on longer than usual, although it would be adversely affected if further dry weather was experienced. Butter-fat for the season 1927-28 amounted to 830,427 lbs., as compared with 707 ; 500 lbs. for the 1926-27 seasn, an increase of 17 J per cent.
It was decided to fix the payment for January butter-fat at Is. 2d. A resolution was passed condemning daylight saving as being opposed to the interests of the farmers. The members ■t the meeting were unanimous in their expression of disapproval of the measure, and it was agreed to support the resolution of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union.
It was decided to give the Co-opera-tive Marketing Association a free hand in disposing of all butter-fat. It was reported that a new butter pounder, imported from overseas, had been installed for use in the manufacture of pat butter. It was anticipated that the machine would result in a considerable saving in labour, and that it would pay for itself within twelve months.
