SUPREME COURT

PALMERSTON SITTING COMMENCED Palmerston North, February 7. The first quarterly sitting of the Supreme Court in Palmerston North this year commenced this morning, His Honour Mr. Justice MacGregor presiding. In his address to the Grand Jury His Honour stated that he was sorry to see that the criminal list for the district was heavy, there being five men for trial and one for sentence, and some of tlie charges were of a very serious nature. Two cases were of a kind that was becoming altogether too frequent of late, namely, motor accident cases. In all, the deliberations that had to be made by the grand jury, His Honour thought, their duty was clear, for it seemed to him that true bills should have to be returned in all the cases. The following grand jury was empanelled:—Meldrum Alfred Eliott (foreman), Ronald Charles Abraham, Henry Walter George Ashworth, Arthur John Berrvman, John Thomas Bosworth, David Buchanan, John Frederick Carter, Henry Ralph Harvey Chalmers, Frederick Edward Coutts, John James Craven, Donald Fraser, James \Hardie, James Lancaster, William Moffatt, Oscar Monrad, Herbert James Nicholls, Gifford Sidney Remington, Cecil George Swallow, Percival Bernard Torstenson, Henry Trevor, Eustace Campbell Turner.

True bills were returned in the following cases:—Charles George Wilmot Palmer, alleged indecent assault on a male; Richard George Harland, alleged unlawful carnal knowledge; Frank Lawrence Farr, alleged causing death of a person through negligent driving of a motor-car; C. H de May D’Alkemade, alleged attempted sale as grantor of an instrument by wav of security of stock comprised in such instrument. A no bill was returned in the case against Alexander Kirk Mitchell, alleged causing death of a person while in a state of intoxication through an act of omission.
