MASTER GROCERS

ANNUAL CONFERENCE OPENED. Dominion Special Service. Nelson, February 7. The fifth annual conference of the New Zealand Master Grocers’ Federation was opened by tho Hou. A. D. McLeod today. Over fifty delegates were present. The Mayor (Mr. W. J. Moffat) accorded the delegates a welcome to Nelson. Mr. Atmore. M.P., Hon. W. W. Snodgrass, and the president of the Chamber ol Commerce (Mr. E. H. Thomson) supported his remarks. Mr. McLeod said he did not think stability in a country was built up by the growth of huge monopolies, but he was sure the Empire owed its present Solidarity to the multitude of small shopkeepers who exhibited a spirit of healthy independence where monopolies existed.
