YOUNG MAN CAUTIONED. Wanganui. February 6. “You haven’t woke up yet,” said Mr’ J. S. Barton, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court to-day, to a young man who is the father of an illegitimate child and who owes £2O maintenance. “You paid £l6 under compulsion in November last, and on your own showing you were walking round with money in' your pocket A baby has to be fed several times a day, and you and your mates at a bach paid £L 3s. 6d. a week for your own meals. You have not done badly by yourself, I arn satisfied of that.” . “I have done riy best ” replied defendant. “Yes, but vour best is not good enough,” said the Magistrate. “You are ordered by tin’s Court to pay .in the money, and if vou are walking round with only 10s. in your pocket you are liable to be sent to gaol for not paving it in. You are convicted and ordered to come up lor sentence if you fail to notify the complaint’s solicitor once a week of vour whereabouts and your work or efforts to get work.” Turning to counsel, Mr Barton said: “If you fail to receive these notices, vou notify the police and they will bling him up,"
