HAUTU PRISON
OPERATIONS EXTENDED By a formal proclamation which appeared in last night’s Gazette, a substantial addition is made to the land upon which the Hautu prison (near Tokaanu) is situated. The area has been extended from about 7<50 acres to 10,000 acres, thus enabling the prison authorities to carry out further development work on this pumice land. It is understood that the object is to so clear and improve the land as to make it suitable for sub-division and profitable settlement.
