FORGERY AND THEFT
CLERK ADMITS CHARGES Dominion Special. Christchurch, December 7. Charges involving . forgery and theft were heard against John Hamilton, a clerk, aged 43, before Mr. E. D. Mosley, S.M., this.morning. The charges were that, on August 3, accused forged an endorsement to a cheque drawn on the Bank of New Zealand for £5O 3s. Id., and that on November 9 he forged an - endorsement to another cheque for £42 19s; 10d.. ■ He was further charged that; while being a servant of the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative Association of Canterbury, Ltd., he stole the sums of £5O 3s. Id. and £42 19s. 10d., the property of the association.
When arrested, on . .November 2'.), Hamilton made a voluntary statement, in which he admitted falsely endorsing the cheques. A plea of guilty was entered to all charges, and Hamilton was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Bail was allowed in accused’s own recognisance of £l5O, and one surety of £l5O.
