FRENCH FACTORIES
DISPENSING WITH MANY WORKMEN PROBLEM OF UNEMPLOYED FOREIGNERS (Rec. December 6, 7.15 p.m.) Paris, December 6. A big problem in France is the fate cf ■ foreigners, numbering two or three hundred thousand, who are likely to be thrown out of work in the process of revalorising the franc. The recent inflation gave the French trade an artificial stimulus,' and every factory clamoured for men, until, it is estimated that three million foreigners are working in France. The iron factories around Paris are already discharging half their men, and two of the biggest motor firms are dispensing with the services of two to three thousand hands apiece. The Lyons silk factories, Robaix and Tourcoing textile works, and the Rougeres boot manufacturers are also feeling the pinch.
