IRON OF OLD SUSPICIONS

ENTERED FRENCH SOUL AGAIN WORK DONE AT THOIRY WRECKED LEADERS’ INFORMAL CONVERSATIONS AT GENEVA Informal conversations between the leaders were the opening phases at the Geneva Conference. A correspondent says the iron of old suspicions appears to have entered the French soul again, and even M. Briand admits that the work done at Thoiry has to a large extent been wrecked. B? TELEGRALH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.— COPYRIGHT.

(Rec. December 6, 7.15 p.m.) London, December 6. The opening phases of the Geneva Conference were devoted to informal conversations between the leaders, especially M. Briand and Dr. Stresemann, the first since the secret meeting at Thoiry. Mr. Renwick, representing the “Daily Chronicle," says the iron of old suspicions appears to have entered the French soul again. Even M. Briand admits that the work done at Thoiry has to a large extent been wrecked. It was based upon the belief that France would do anything for money, but (France’s financial position has so much improved since, that M. Briand and Dr. Strese maun must begin again from the Thoiry starting-point. A bargain can only be achieved now if Germany yields to the Polish and Czecho-Slovakian demands that fuller frontier guarantees be forthcoming than the Germans agreed to at Locarno.

FRANCO-ITALIAN FRONTIER DANGEROUS TENSION London, December 5. The “Daily News" states that the French naval concentration in the Mediterranean deepens the mystery surrounding the Franco-Italian frontier, where the dangerous tension on both sides is causing the suppression of news. It is believed that at least three additional French regiments have arrived at the frontier within a week.— Sydney "Sun" Cable. ITALO-ALBANIAN TREATY Belgrade, December 5. The Press is alarmed at the Italo-Al-banian Treaty as threatening Albanian and Jugo-Slavian independence, and ensuring Italian domination in the Balkans and Adriatic. 1
