LEAGUE OF NATIONS UNION

A meeting of the Council of the League of, Nations Union (Wellington branch) was held on Thursday evening. In the absence of the president, Dr. Gibb, the chair was taken by Mr P. Fraser, M.P., and eight other members were present. A report was received ■rom the sub-committee appointed to draw up an appeal to churches to become corporate members of the union. The draft of the appeal was adopted and arrangements made for it to be printed. A large number of letters were read and dealt with, including some from other newly-formed branches both in New Zealand and in Australia Correspondence was also received from the Dominion Council and from the British League oi Nations Union on several matters of importance As the Home Office is so far away, it was suggested that possiblv students going to Europe, as for instance, Rhodes scholars, might act in same cases as representatives of the New Zealand Union at meetings of the Home Union. One important matter that was to come before the Consultative Committee of the British Union was the formation of a Parliamentary Committee of the League of Nations Union, and a similar idea had been put forth by the New Zealand Union at its last conference, though so far nothin? definite had been done. A report was given of the work accomplished by the special women’s committee in holding meetings for women in the afternoon at which new subscribers had been obtained, and appreciation of their work was expressed by the council. A luncheon held at the Pioneer Club was also reported by Miss Kane, the president of the club. A most encouraging report was given as to the suggestion for next vear of forming a study circle in connection with the League of Nations Union and it is hoped to give further details shortly
