TAXI METERS IN AUCKLAND

NEW BY-LAWS ADOPTED. Dominion Special. Auckland, December 2. From the beginning of next year all. motor-cars plying for public hire from various stands in the city will require to be fitted with taxi meters of an approved type. It is understood that the intention of the City Council is not to grant licenses until meters are so fitted.- There are approximately 200 motor-cars plying for hire in Auckland, and of these about 45 are fitted with meters. The by-law requiring all cars to be fitted with meters from January 1 next will not apply to certain cars operating only from a private. garage, the council by special resolution having exempted these.
