KENT TERRACE

MAYOR’S REPLY TO OBJECTORS

“NOT CONSISTENT WITH GOOD TASTE” 1 -

“I do not think,” said, the Mayor (Mr. C. J. B. Norwood) yesterday, “that the last statement made by the objectors to the Kent Terrace improvements calls for any general reply from me. We are living in a well-ordered communitv, and I cannot bring myself to think 'the latest statement of the objectors consistent with good taste—or good cricket! “Substantially the whole of the matter contained in the statement of the objectors was placed before Mr. Page, S.M., at the inquiry, and follows very closely the .lines of the address made there by Mr. L. Hunt. As Mr.. Page is an experienced and able Magistrate of high standing, it would be idle, if not improper, to attempt to have the matter rediscussed in the form of a newspaper controversy. I will leave it at that.”

DISSOLUTION OF INJUNCTION

objectors withhold consent

In a case such as the present those responsible for the issue of an injunction may, after the decision is given, expedite matters by stating to the authorities that thev waive their objections: otherwise it is the duty of the respondents (in this case the City Council! to give notice to move for a dissolution of the injunction at the expiry of ten davs. Although it has been conveyed both to the Citv Council and the obiectors that the proclamation will be issued, making the Canal Reserve a public . street, the objectors have not so far removed their obiection. Anticipating that such might be the case, the usual ten davs’ notice was served on the Government immediately after the decision of the inquiry’ was known.
