SANDERS CUP TRIALS
PEGGY’S THIRD WIN. There was a full-sail southerly wind blowing last evening, when the fourth Sanders Cup trial was heid. U was antielnatcd that the race would be a-n in tercsting one, and although was unable to compete, owing to her being without her full , crew until some minutes after the starting time, such it proved to be. The course was practically that taken in the first two trl ,^ s from the starting line oetween Cljde Quav Wharf and the end of the boat harbour wall, to the Point Jermnghani buoy, from there to . the Coromandel buoy, and from there back to the start"'peggv and All Black got away almost together on the lead to Jcrningham, at 6.5 p.m. It was not long before All Black had secured a lead of some thirty yards, which she soon increased considerably. It looked as if Pcsgy be able to decrease this lead before the Jerniughara buoy was reached, but sue was unable to do so, and AU ed the buoy first, at 6.16, Pegey following at 6.16.45. By the time Peggy had got round the buoy, All Black, bad caught the breeze which was coming Evans Bav. and had increased her lead considerably. The broad. lead to Coromandel proved most exciting; All Black was sailing beautifully, gradually increasing her lead on Peggy* -At tnis stage it looked as if Peggy was going to be beaten by a considerable margin, but she managed to draw somewhatnearer to All Black before the buoy was rounded. All Black rounded ,the Coromandel buoy at 6.24.20, and Peggy at 6.25. On the beat back to the starting line Peggy showed what ehe was capable of doing, and when the two yachts spl«t tacks nt the northern end of the Thorndon breastwork, Peggy was only five yards behind her rival. All Black managed to’retain her-lead for some time, however, but. as the starting' lino was anroached Peggy got ahead, and eventually crossed the line first, about 75 yards in front of All Black. Peggy crossed at 6.48. and All Black at 6.49.45 It was unfortunate that Wellesley was unable to compete in the race, as,\when she went out by herself, she made excellent times. She got away at 6.25.30, rminded the Point Jerningham buoy at 6 35.30, and the Coromandel buoy at 6.42. If ehe had been competing in the trial, it. is quite certain that it would have been rendered much more interesting on that account. Peggy has now w6n three trials out of the four that have been held, while AU Black has won one.
