KING OF RUMANIA
LIFE MEASURED BY WEEKS QUEEN MARIE TO VISIT PARIS ANXIOUS TO MEET PRINCE CAROL BT TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION. Copyright. (Rec. November 30, 7.40 p.m.) London. November 29. A wireless message from tlie steamer Berengaria intimates that Queen Marie of Rumania will spend a day or two in Paris. This is interpreted to mean that King Ferdinand’s condition is not so desperate as reported, also that the Queen is anxious to meet Prince Carol, presumably with the idea of impressing upon him the necessity of conforming to Rumanian Constitutional law.. On the other hand, advices from Bucharest suggest that, despite official denials, King Ferdinand’s days are numbered. Certainly there is a temporarv improvement in his condition, but his life, under the most favourable view, is to be measured by- weeks. Prince Carol remains quiet at Neuillv. Madame Lambrino, who resides a couple of streets away, shrugs her shoulders at the idea of Prince Carol being a candidate for the throne. Her main object is to obtain French legal recognition of her .right to use the name Hohenzollern. The Court of Appeal will deliver its decision on this claim in a few days.
[Prince Carol is grandson of Prince Leopold of Hohenzollcrn-Sigmarin-gen.] PRINCESS HELEN TO LIVE IN RUMANIA Paris, Novembei 29. It is reported that Prince Carol secretly agreed that his wife should return and reside in Rumania for dynastic reasons. There is no suggestion that the arrangement necessitates his breaking off his relations with Madame Lupescu.
FRANCO-ITALIAN FRONTIER MILITARY ACTIVITIES ON BOTH SIDES BLOCKHOUSES ERECTED AND FORTS REARMED London, November 29. The “Daily News” says that information has been received in London which increases the mystery of recent events on the Franco-Italian frontier. Italy has mounted 150 guns between San Remo and Ventimiglia, and has reconstructed the mountain roads to enable the passage of guns. She has also erected blockhouses.
Similar precautions have been taken on the French side, where forts have been rearmed and reoccupied. An infantry regiment has moved from Marseilles’ and is now stationed at Saint Martin-Vesublc, close to the frontier.
