MAGISTRATE’S COURT
POLICE, CIVIL AND BY-LAW CASES Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M., dealt with the 1 ' police cases in the Magistrate s Court yesterday. ~ On a charge of being an idle and disorderly per/on with insufficient means oi lawful support, Claude Paget, alias Lester, alias Charles Parder (aged 51), was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment with hard labour. Kenneth Guy, a labourer (aged 18), who appeared for sentence on a charge of stealing postal notes, money, and stamps to the total value of Ji-0 18s. 6d., tlie property of the Government, was ordered to be detained in the Borstal Institute for a period not exceeding two . Y e ars. For using indecent language on rne Limited express while on his way to Wellington from Auckland, Timothy O’Sullivan, a labourer (aged 43), .was fined £2 in default 14 days’ imprisonment. He was similarly dealt with tor drunkenness. A remand until December S was granted in the case of Thomas O’Hara, a labourer (aged 33), who was charged with breaking and entering ‘by day the premises of the N.Z. Farmers’ Distributing Co. withwthe intent to commit a crime therein. BY-LAW BREACHES. Breaches of the by-laws were dealt with by Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M. For speeding, the following were each fined the amounts stated:—William rerguson, X 3 (two charges), Leslie McCabe, Albert Michael Cohen, W. D. McGill Nutt, Cyril Dentice (two charges), momas A6h (two charges). £2 each. Frank Harold Robinson and Stanley William Brodley were each fined ws. and costs for having no lights attached to their vehicles. For failing to keep to the left, Henry Coombe, Arthur Johnson, and Thomas C. Brock were each fined £i and C °For passing a stationary tram Albert Michael Cohen was fined £2 and costs. Emily Kate Alder-on was fined 10s. and costs for failing to notify the change of ownership of a car. . Richard Herlihy, Beresford Lavin and James Lawton were each fined £-> ana costs for dangerous driving. Leaving their cars unattended tesulted in William Ernest Johnson, James Ilavid Martin Mclntyre, and John Elm-on each being fined £3 and costs. A fine of £3 and costs was imposed on Nash Motors, Ltd., for not having the assigned number plates on a vehicle. George V. M. P-. Sarcieh was fined £1 and costs for not having a proper number plate on his motor-cycle. CIVIL BUSINESS. Judgment by default in favour of plaintiff was given by Mr. W. G.
