RUMANIAN THRONE
GRAVITY OF THE KING’S CONDITION FEARS OF CIVIL WAR IF PRINCE CAROL DEMANDS SUCCESSION By Telegraph.—press association. COPYRIGHT. Paris, November 28. Mystery continues to surround King Ferdinand’s illness. The strictest censorship is being imposed, and the Rumanian. people are ignorant of the gravity of the King’s condition.. Nevertheless, the country is effervercing, especially military circles, amongst which Prince Carol lias many supporters. The Paris newspaper “Midi” asserts tliat the Rumanian Government possesses information to the effect that Prince. Carol intends returning to Rumania and issuing a proclamation to the army and nation demanding help in defence of his hereditary rights. The Government, therefore, is sending Professor Forga to dissuade Prince Carol from causing civil war. Prince Carol is residing at Neuilly and refuses to make a statement. It is reported, that he will meet Queen Marie, who is' arriving from America on Tuesday. The Bucharest Government denies the possibility of civil war. London, November 28. The “Daily Mail’s” Vienna correspondent says that King Ferdinand supremely desires to see Prince Carol, who is at present in Paris with his lover, Madame Lupescu. Prince Carol has written, expressing a wish to visit King Ferdinand, but is insisting that Princess Helen, from whom he desires a divorce in order to marry Madame Lupescu, must be sent from Rumania. Princess Helen has won the respect of the Rumanians, who consider that Prince Carol’s demand is atrocious. M. Bratianu (Minister of the Interior) considers that Prince Carol’s bid for the Kingship will entail a .civil war, but says that King Ferdinand, if Prince Carol shows any indication of being a worthy successor, would rescind the latter’s renunciation of the Throne.
THE KING IMPROVING MISLEADING REPORTS (Rec. November 29, 5.5 p.m.) Paris, November 28. The Rumanian Minister states that advices from Bucharest reaffirm that the King is improving. The reports of coups d’etat and civil war are as misleading as the pessimistic accounts regarding King Ferdinand. The Queen’s return is expected to have a steadying effect. It is pointed * out that the most alarmist reports come from Berlin, Vienna, and Budapest, where _ internal complications in Rumania would be welcomed.
BANISHMENT ORDER LIKELY TO BE REVOKED (Rec. November 29, 10.45 p.m.) ondon, November 29. The “Daily Telegraph” says a wellinformed diplomatic correspondent states that it can no longer be disputed that Prince Carol’s recall and reinstatement has been earnestly considered in Court and political circles, owing to the delicate condition of King Ferdinand, and most likely an order revoking his banishment, will be given effect to as soon as Queen Marie reaches Bucharest and discusses the existing regency with .the Council and Prince Carol’s domestic future.
