FIRE AT SEA
LINER AYRSHIRE DESTROYED CREW RESCUED London, November 28. The liner Ayrshire is ablaze near Colombo. (Rec. November 29, 5.5 p.m.) London, November 28. The Ayrshire was completely destroyed by the re. The crew of a hundred were rescued by the City of Nagpur and the Aeneas. The warship Lupin was left in attendance on the derelict. The fire originated in the bunkers, which were quickly red hot. The flames spread amidships, blazing fiercely upwards 150 feet. [The Ayrshire was built in the latter half of 1908 by Hawthorn, Leslie, and Company, Newcastle, for the Scottish Shire Line. She has a gross tonnage of 9137, and her principal dimensions are: Length, 460 ft.; breadth, 58ft.; depth, 31ft. The Ayrshire left Sydney at the beginning of November, laden with wool and refrigerated cargo for Great Britain.]
