INFECTIOUS DISEASES

SMALL INCREASE IN WELLINGTON

Forty-seven cases of infectious diseases were reported to the district health authorities for the week ended at noon yesterday, a similar number being recorded in the bulletin issued last week. In Wellington there- was a decrease in the case of scarlet fever and diphtheria, while eight deaths from tuberculosis and one from pneumonia were reported. The Nelson-Marlborough district was free from notifiable diseases of any. description. Throughout the Dominion there were, all told, 127 cases, this being an increase of one on the figures for the previous seven days. Twentythree people died in the Dominion as a result of contracting infectious diseases. Following are details of the cases reported in the various hospital districts in the week till yesterday morning, figures for the previous seven days being given in parentheses:— Taranaki • Horowhenua: Scarlet fever, 5 (2); diphtheria, 6 (8); enteric fever, 1 (0); tuberculosis, 1 (1); erysipelas, 1 (0); pneumonia, 2 (2); puerperal fever, 1 (0); total, 17 (13). Wairarapa-East Cape: Scarlet fever, 3 (1); diphtheria, 4 (6); enteric fever, 5 (6); tuberculosis, 1 (2); pneumonia, 2 (4) ; erysipelas, 0 (1) ; total, 15 (20). Central. Wellington: Scarlet fever, 7 (9); diphtheria, 3 (1); tuberculosis, 2 (0) ; puerperal fever, 3 (0); enteric fever, 0 (1); pneumonic influenza, 0 (1) ; total, 15 (12). Nelson-Marlborough: Diphtheria, 0 (2) total, 0 (2). Grand total, 47 (47). The total notifications for the Dominion are: Scarlet fever, 24; diphtheria, 33; enteric fever, 9; tuberculosis, 32; pneumonia, 17; erysipelas, 2; puerperal fever, 5; hydatids, 2; eclampsia, 1; dysentery, 2; making a total of 127.
