OLD MAN DROWNED
AN OPEN VERDICT RETURNED. Mr W. G. Riddell, S.M. (Coroner) conducted an inquest in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday into the death of Cornelius Conway (aged 68), who was found drowned in the harbour near the Eastbourne Ferry Wharf < n Thursday morning last. The evidence showed that, deceased, who had been -living alone in ft bach in May Street, had been employed by the Citv Council on sewerage work for some time past. Conway, who was very short sighted, almost blind, in fact, was last seen alive when walking on the wharf on Thursday morning, it was stated. Mr. Riddell said that there was no evidence as to how deceased came to be in the water. He may have stumbled in or gone in intentionally. The verdict would be that deceased was found drowned in Wellington Harbour on Thursday, there being no evidence to show how he came to” be in the water.
