SANDERS CUP TRIALS
PEGGY’S SECOND WIN . For the third Sanders Cup trial last evening the water was calm and a ‘JS“t southerly breeze was blowing. The course was from a line between the Clyde Quay Wharf and the end of the boat harbour wall to the Rakanqa, which was berthed near Kaiwarra, and from there back to the starting-line. On account of the light weather, the three boats, Wellesley, All Black, and Peggy, were each manned with only three men. Mr G Groves was the official-starter. All Black was a little behind at the start, which was at 5.50, and the three were put out immediately. On the run to .leeward, Peggy soon took the -lead. She temporarily lost, this, however, and when the Pipitea Wharf was passed Wellseley was in.the lead, with All Black. closely following her, and Peggy a short distance behind All Black. When the boats were oif the Thorndon breastwork, _ Peggy had drawn up to the second position. Peggy, was the first to round the Rakanoa, with All Black a yard to the rear, and Wellesley no more than a yard behind her. When the Rakanoa was left behind, Wellesley lost ground early in the heat,. and Peggy soon increased her lead on AU Blacki Wellesley fell hopelessly, to the rear. When the beat for. home began, Peggy was still ahead, with All Black considerably behind. Peggy steadily increased her lead, several hundred yards separating the other boats. The race was won by Peggy without' any difficulty. When she crossed the „ line at 7.19 All Black was about half a mile to the rear, with Wellseley another half-mile behind.
