PLUNGE INTO WINTER
SNOW-COVERED HILLS. Dominion Special. Dannevirke, November 28. Daunevirke was plunged into winter at the week-end. A bitterly cold southwest wind brought practically a day of rain nn the lower country arid snow on the hills which received a heavy coating during Saturday night and Sunday. The weather was particularly _ trying to newly shorn sheep, of which there are now a large number about. During the past week 1757...ba1es of wool were consigned at the Dannevirke railway station, and thought most of it came from the coastal country, some of the big sheds near Dannevirke were in full swing bfeore the weather broke.
By Telegraph.—press association. Gisborne, November 29. Snow lias fallen on the high ranges along the East Coast, and a cold snap is impeding the shearing operations. No losses of stock are reported. Ashburton, November 29. Unusually cold weather prevailed during the week-end. Snow fell on Saturday on the higher country and covered (ho hills to the foot. About an inch fell at Mount Somers township and five or six inches a few miles up the Ashburton Gorge.
