.MONTHLY COUNCIL MEETING.
Carterton, November 27.
The Wairarapa South County Council met at Carterton to-day, Councillor T. V. Moore (chairman) presiding. The finance statement showed a debit balance of £667 Us ltd. Receipts for the month £377 18s. 2d. Accounts totalling £l9Ol 12s. 7d. were passed for payment. The Carterton Amateur Athletic Club were granted the use of the steam roller to roll their track on the show grounds. The Bank of New Zealand approved of an overdraft limit ot £5OOO on the County Fund Account. The Carrington Water Race overseer reported having done genera, maintenance work. Grass had been cut back and the paddocks shut up, and races kept clean. The Taratahi water-race overseer reported that during the month the' intake had been cleaned out, and the big stones removed from out of the cut, and on Monday a full head of water was turned on
Tbe engineers reported that during the month all the piles bad been driven for tlie Hinaki Creek bridge. The balance of the steel (or Booth’s Creek bridge was expected this week, and construction of the superstructure would be completed. No further work had been done in the approaches to Booth’s' Creek. About two miles oi preparation course has oeen completed to date. Arrangements were jiractically ready for commencing the bitumen penetration course. The tender of Martin Kerris had been accepted subject to the conditions suggested, but work had not been commenced. Au inspection of the Hikorangi culvert site bad been made, and drawings were in hand. Tbe Lands Department, in reply to the protest at the clearing of bush on watersheds in Warohine survey district, said that Mr. Udy’s application in regard to section 8, Block VI., Warohine, was advertised, and as no objections to the grant bad been received, it was too late to have the matter renewed. The area adjoining, namely Section 1, Block V., Warohine, 12611 acres, was Crown land not available for selection at the present time, while the area to the north was State Forest. It was decided to pay the rent in respect to a charitable aid case at Dalefield.
