Marton, November 27. The Rangitikei County Council decided, after a long discussion, and on the casting vote of the chairman, to vote £5 ss. towards the North Island Agricultural College League. Before the business commenced at tlie Marton Magistrate’s Court yesterday, Mr. R. 31. Watson, S.M., announced that after the New Year business at the Marton Court would be taken 'bv Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M. Mr. L Brock, manager of the Hunterville branch of the Union Bank of Australia, is at present on holiday in the South Island. Dr Davies, the lady practitioner who has been practising in Mangaweka for some months, is leaving the district. The Tailiape Chamber of Commerce has decided to urge upon tlie Railway Department the necessity for running later trains north and south of Tailiape on Saturday evenings The increasing popularity of Tailiape as a shopping centre has made this more desirable.
Mr. N. Trewby, town clerk at Mangaweka, intends to resign his position to take up an appointment as inspector to the Queensland Insurance Company at New Plymouth. . , An apparent anopialv in the railway freight charges on butter has caused criticism in the Tailiape district.. The freight from Rata to Wanganui is only 16s. per ton, while the rate from Taihape to Wanganui is 295. lid per ton. For the month of October the Taihape Dairy Company manufactured 33} tons of butter, compared with 26} tons for the same month last rear. The company paid out at the rate of Is Idper Ib. The Tailiape Company is sending quite a quantity of butter to Wellington for local consumption. It ■ill passes through the grading storey, and the average grade is 93, which is verv satisfactory for this time of the vear.
