NEW ZEALAND TEAM DEFEATED CLOSE GAME WITH SWINTON Bi Telegbaph.—pbess association, copyright. (Rec. November 28, 5.5 p.m.) London, November 27. The New Zealand League team was defeated by Swinton by 16 points to 11. It was a thrilling contest. Swinton Started well, quickly gaining a 5 points lead, when Beswick. scored a try, which Morris converted. 1 lie New Zealanders then subjected the Swinton line to greater pressure than it has known lor a long time. Several attackers were held a yard from the line, and several times the ball was over the line, but a defender go: there first. Eventually Mouat kicked a penalty goal, this being the New Zealanders’ only reward in the first' half. Morris kicked a goal for Swinton, who led at the end of the first half by 7 points to 2. New Zealand led 9 minutes after resumption, Desmond, Brown, and then Desmond again scoring tries, all Ot which were the result of remarkable speed and delightful work. Mouat failed to convert any of them. Swinton then attacked hotly, and Morris kicked a penalty goal. A thrilling run bj Davidson and Brown from their own half ended in the latter scoring a spectacular try. Swinton drew the scores level when Halliwell scored a try,.which Morris converted There was feverish excitement in the last minute, when Pearson dropped a goal, giving Swinton victory. The New Zealand team played splendidly throughout, and was inferior to their opponents only iij the sciums. The New Zealand team was: Gregory, Desmond, Davidson, Cole, Brown, Delgrosso, Brisbane, Henry, Carroll, Herring, Mouat, Peterson, and Avery.
