ON SPEAKER’S CASTING VOTE
VICTORIAN ELECTORAL BOUNDARIES FRESH RE-DIVISION TO BE MADE By telegraph.—Press association. Copyright. Melbourne, November 26. ■ ■ The Victorian State Assembly, amid scenes of great excitement, agreed to a fresh re-division of electoral boundaries on the-' casting vote , of' the Speaker. Members of the Labour Opposition, chagrined at the prospect of a Ministerial victory, completely discarded the dignity traditionally associated with Parliamentary procedure, . and . made grossly insulting remarks to Ministers and the Speaker. There has been much discussion in the Victorian Assembly-over the electoral boundaries issues. Last week the Ministry was defeated by ■33 votes to 30 on the Government’s proposals for re-division of the State into electoral districts on the lines of the Boundary Commission’s report. The Premier (Mr. J Allan) announced that the Ministry would not resign, as it had made up its mind to pass a Redistribution Bill. The. proposals would be referred back to the Commission. On that occasion the House adjourned in disorder.
