Probation was grunted io William Erauci;', Halliburton of Ashburton when he enme up for sentence to-<tay for receiving .£152 ISs. lid. ami failing to account for it, ami for stealing 4:501 15s. lid. from Mrs. M. S. McArthur. Mr. Justice Stringer said that, the ease gave him much anxiety. His Honour believed that Halliburton had not intended dishonestly to appropriate the moneys and would have repaid except for the failure of his business resulting from the slump in land values. In admitting Halliburton to probation for two years. His Honour said that Halliburton’s position was duo to muddling tnebtods of business. Halliburton was ordered to pay the costs of the prosecution £2l 13s. Bd. . within three months and thereafter to make restitution as directed by the probation officer.
