COMMERCIAL TRAVELLERS’ JOY. NIGHT

The Wellington Commercial Travellers' and Warenouse.nien's Association could have doue wit i a more roomy place thau even both the large Town nail and the Concert Chamber last evening on the occasion ot their annual etiort to raise (uuds for providing Christmas treats for several philanthropic institutions, etc. The decorations were bright to a degree, and each hall had an efficient orchestra. There were not very many present in fancv dress, but the general effect of the great crowds was a moving kaleidoscope of colours. Aa to the 'joy" part of it, it would be difficult to imagine a happier looking crowd; the only jarring note was the dancing of the really hideous Charleston, but that, mercifully, was only by a very few. The committee, ably helped by many other members of the association. were very busy looking after the comfort of everyone. Mrs. Hope Gibbons and Mrs. Hugh Wright judged the fancy costumes, and Mrs. Little, wife of the president, presented the prizes. The first prize for ladies was won by Mrs. Goodwin, as confetti; the first prize for gentlemen by Mr. N. 8. Robson, of Napier, as the ’Pearlie King,” an excellent coster costume. The iccond prize winners "Mum and Dad.” were Mrs. Paynter and Mr. Bates. The committee which carried out the arrangements comprised Mr. E. Little (president), Mr. Peter Connell (hon. secretary). .Mr. i. Smvthe a ’ lrl Messrs. .1. Marks. H. Wright, I>. McCaul, P. Aekins, F. Manton. C. Rushbrook. H. Young, P. Shuny, H. Smith, L. Quinton, and M. I oqls, but all the members of the association did their share towards the very successful func’tan. The catering was done by Mr. Pankhurst. of the Adelphi Cabaret.
