Christchurch, November 23.

“I committed the offences because 1 wanted money. I went at the races and was out of work.” Hits was tlie explanation made in a statement to the police by Leonard Wright (aged 27) who appeared in the Magistrate’s Court this morning, and pleaded guilty to two charges of breaking and entering houses in Riccarton and Addington. His haul in jewellery and money in one case amounted to £24 7s. Gd. For the theft of two chisels .valued at ss. 6d. Wright was sentenced to 7 days' imprisonment, and he was committed to the Supreme Court lor sentence on the breaking and entering charges.
