WANGANUI NOTES
Wanganui, November 21. The final stock sale at Wanganui East prior to the closing of the yards was held to-day There was a large attendance of buyers. Sheep appeared in small lots, a few sales only being recorded. The cattle pens were well filled, some fine fat stock being m keen demand. . , . The parishioners and supporters of Christ Church, Wanganui, responded with great liberality to the appeal of the vicar and vestry for funds to be devoted -o the needs of the church. Last Saturday was set aside as_ a gift day, the creditable sum of £-l"3 being received. The amount included not only many substantial contributions, but also hundreds of small ones. Messrs. D. Munroe (of tne Stock Department) and Downes (of the River Trust) have returned from ■ up-river, where tliev conducted experiments in poisoning wild pigs. Mr. Munroe will submit a report to headquarters. Owitij? to the fine weatutT an miusual demand has set in upon local painters and decorators. One master painter stated that orders have poured in, and everyone requires his workdone within tile next few days.
