For the first time in the history of motoring, the Dewar Trophy, presented annually for the most meritorious motoring performane carried out under Royal Autobomile Club observation, lias been won by a woman, says an English paper. It was announced recently by the R.A.C. that the trophy is to be given to Miss Violet Cordery, who in March at Monza, Italy, at the head of a team of five men drivers, broke many long-distance records, and with her team mates covered 15,625 miles at an average speed of 56 m.p-h Miss Cordery, who is 23, has been driving cars since she was 19. Her yearly average mileage is somewhere in the 20.000 mark. She is not only a very fine driver, but also possesses a wonderful reserve of strength, which has. served her well on long endurance trials. At a Brooklands /Automobile Club racing dinner last year Miss Cordery was tlie only woman among 199 men guests.
