Before Mr. W. G. Riddell. S.M. in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, the Labour Department proceeded against A Gustofsen, licensee of the Post (Juice Hotel, for failing to allow a <,ook ' ‘l full week’s holiday on full pay. and also for dismissing a barman without notice or wages in lieu cf notice. Mr. R T. Bailey, for the Department, statedYhat the 'circumstances in connection with the harmans dismissal were somewhat unusual and P alt, '\- .*‘"J man’s wife became ill and lie obtained leave of absence to take her to a maternity hospital, bue he was defamed a little longer on (he errand than expected, with the result that his employer dismissed him. When the barman tried to explain about his wife's condition, the licensee stated be did cot want tn carry the trouble of the barman s wife upon his shoulders. . , The Magistrate staled that the circumstances justified the worker in remaining away longer than allowed nnd gave judgment for .£2 and 1-S- costs in favour of the prosecution. In the other case a fine of 16s. was imposed
