MAGISTRATE’S COURT

POLICE, CIVIL AND BY-LAW CASES Mr. E. Page, S.M.. dealt with police cases in the Magistrate’s Court j’esterday. Kor resisting a constable during the execution of his duty, James Shannon (aged 48) was fined £5, in default fourteen days' imprisonment. He was convicted and discharged for drunkenness. Hong Choc, a Chinaman, who was charged with secreting himself on the R.M.S. Tahiti from Papeete to Wellington without the consent of the ship’s master, was remanded until December 1. A remand until December 1 was granted in the case of Charles Goodwell, a hairdresser (aged 45). who was charged with breaking and entering by night the premises of Arcus Duncan, a tobacconist, of 102 Lambton Quay, and stealing goods to the total value of Jh> “ s ’_ . Edward May, a labourer (aged 35), Eric Jones, a shop assistant (aged 30), and Albert James Olsen, a barman (aged 31), who were jointly charged with breaking and entering by night the warehouse of Samuel Treister, and stealing soft-goods to the total value of ALO9 18s., were remanded until this,morning. A similar remand was granted in the case- of Kenneth Guy, a Government servant (aged 19), who was charged with stealing Cs. in postal notes from the Department of Agriculture.

BY-LAW BREACHES

Offenders against the by-laws were dealt with by Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M. For driving their cars in a dangerous manner, Albert Bottom and Kenneth Douglas were each fined and costs. Solomon Brickman and George Fenwick Ball, each £2 costs; William Parris, £1 and costs. The last-named was also convicted and ordered to pay 7s. costs for having no driver’s license. Morman Keating, Cedric Glover Allen, and Clarence George Joslin were each fined £2 and costs for speeding. J. S. H. Watts was fined £1 for leaving his car unattended. For like offences Alfred John Banks and Bernard Albert Guise were each fined 10s. and Magnus Motors, Ltd., was convicted and ordered to pay 7s. costs on each of four charges of using an unregisterea Harold Arthur Brown and Henry H. Cornish were each fined £1 for having no lights on their cars. Frances Morgan Laurenson, Annie Stubbs, Stephen Baker, junr., and Henry McMillan Alves were fined 10s. and costs for a like oiFor parking his vehicle more than twelve inches from the kero I bilip Schniedeman was fined £1 and costs.
