DELAY IN APPOINTING MANAGER OF N.Z. TEAM

PRACTICE WICKET CHARGES The weekly meeting of the Wellington Cricket Association executive was held last night, the chairman (Mr. C. G. Wilson) presiding. Mr. R. S. Johnston remarked that the delav in appointing the manager of the New Zealand touring team for England was prejudicing the applications for shares, in the undertaking. He moved that the New Zealand Council be written to asking them to make the appointment as soon as possible. Mr. 11. J. Black: I have heard remarked in more places than one: Who is going to be manager? by people who will probably take up shares in the tour.

The motion was carried. The matter of the increased charge for senior practice wickets on the Basin Reserve from £3 to £6 came up for consideration. The chairman said there was no doubt but that the charges on the Basin should be the same as for other reserves. “I think we're a bit offside though," he added, “since we gave them the wickets this season and then raised the fees.” Mr. A. Ronaldson: Some clubs will have to make a readjustment of their subscriptions. Mr. C. Drummond remarked that at present there was a certain club whose subscription for senior membership was only 355. This, he said, was too low, and brought about a tendency for players to go to clubs where they could get senior status at low rates. The speaker thought that an endeavour should be made to have the senior club subscriptions standardised. . Eventually Mr. D. McKenzie moved that the fees for practice wickets on the Basin Reserve should remain the same this season as they had been in the past, but that in the next and succeeding seasons the fee should be £6. The motion was carried. A request was received from the Sports Protection League for the association to appoint. delegates to join the league’s deputation to the City Council on Thursday, December 2, on the subject of the City Reserves, tepid baths, etc. . The secretary was instructed to replv that the whole of the exectuive would attend the meeting if possible The Canterbury Cricket Association wrote suggesting that the match between Canterbury and Wellington representatives at Christchurch should begin on December 31 (Friday) instead of "on January 1. It was stated that the match in Wellington beginning at 2 o’clock on Christmas Dav would probably run well into the fourth day (Wednesday) and it would mean leaving for the south the same day. It was decided to adhere to the opening day on Saturday. January 1. SENIOR FIXTURES. The senior fixtures for next Saturday are:— Hutt v. Petone, at Petone. . . Thorndon v. Kilbirnie, at Kilbirnie.
