OPINIONS OF A MEDICAL PROFESSOR LOW NECKS AND SHORT SKIRTS BENEFICIAL
MEN OVER-CODDLED
Bl’ TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION. COPV’UIGBT.
London, November 18
“Blouses? That’s all nonsense! A girl never caught a complaint through wearing low-necked clothing,” said Professor Leonard Hill, Director of the Department of Applied Physiology, National Institute of Medical Research, when lecturing before the Institute of Hygiene. “Low necks harden and help her to resist disease. Short skirts and silk stockings are also beneficial, especially artificial silk, which allow the ultraviolet rays to penetrate the skin, resulting in sunburning. “The success of women in swimming the Channel is partlv attributable to their training to endure cold more than men, who are over-coddled. “Men should discard collars and adopt open necks, knickerbockers, and running shorts The Prince of Wales could start the fashion by appearing in an open-necked shirt.”
