BRITISH LIBERALS
EFFORT TO RE-ESTABLISH UNITY
*WAR CHEST" PLACED AT DISPOSAL OF PARTY
London, November 18.
The "Daily News” says that Mr. Lloyd George has unconditionally offered to place the whole of the interest upon the famous “war chest” at the disposal of the Liberal Party, with the exception that the cost of his land campaign and industrial inquiry shall be the first charge upon it. This is the outcome of the deliberations of a sub-committee which has been seeking a method of re-establish-ing Liberal unity, especially in regard to finance and organisation. It proposes the establishment of a new management committee agreeable to all parties under a neutral chairman.
[There was disagreement between Mr. Lloyd George and the Earl of Oxford and Asquith over the question of the funds of the Liberal Party, amounting to more than £1,000,000, Mr. Lloyd George refusing to relinquish control.]
