THE WINTER SHOW SITE The conditions imposed by the City Council on the Winter Show Association in connection with the use of the reserve at the foot of Hutchison Road have one checking effect, and that is that the show can scarcely now be held in a new building on the proposed site next vear, as was thought possible up till yesterday. Had permission been given to go ahead without restrictions, 'it was thought that just sufficient time remained between now ana August to run up the proposed show building, but the provision imposed by the City Council that legislative authoritv be first gained for this diversion of a city reserve delays the scheme until next June at least. This means that no work can be gone on with this year or even in the first half of next year. The plans include provision for the construction of a banked cycle track, 440 yards round, suitable for cycle and motor-cvcle races, whilst the centre space could be utilised for tennis courts and croquet greens. When asked yesterday whether he would like to comment upon the decision of the City Council. Mr. G. Mitchell (chairman of the Show Association) ,said there was nothing for publication at present, but a meeting was to be held shortly, at which the council’s dictum would be fully considered.
