Masterton, November 19.
At a meeting of the Masterton Borough Council on Tuesday night permission was granted the Masterton Plunket Society to erect their news rooms on a site in the Masterton Park. Councillor W. 11. S. Heaps has since lodged a notice of motion to rescind that decision.' Consequently the society has had to suspend operations lor a month.
At the annual meeting of the Mnsterton District Public Schools’ Athletic Association officers were elected as follow:—President, Air. R. C. Drtminiond; vice-presidents, chairmen of all school committees; lion, secretary and treasurer, Air. W. C. Baskiville. It was decided to hold the annual championship meeting in Alasterton on December 8. The age limit was reduced to 15 years for seniors and to 12 years for juniors. One officer and twenty men of other ranks from the local Mounted Rifles troop have been invited to participate in the military pageant to be held in Wellington in February in honour of the visit of the Duke and Duchess of York. Another suspected case of typhoid fever was admitted to the hospital yesterday Tbe supposed source of infection was the same as in the earlier cases. There are now five cases in hospital, of whom three are positive. As the result of a collision on the East Coast Road between a service mail-car driven by Air. Ivan Gray and a car driven by Air. T. Flannery, a stock agent, a man named Henderson, i station cook, of “Eparaima,” aud formerly of Wellington, was admitted to hospital suffering from severe internal injuries. Captains 11. B. Alauusell and R. J. Sinclair, of the 7th Alounted Rifles, have been promoted to the rank of major. At the twenty-eighth annual meeting of shareholders of the Workers’ Afutual Benefit Building Society, Air. R. Krahagen, the retiring director, was re-elected. The report stated that the credit on the profit and loss account was £3285. All loans had been paid out, and the termination of the society was now in sight. The accumulated profit on each share amounts to £l6 10s. A wedding of much local interest took place at the Greytown Presbyterian Church on Thursday afternoon, when Air. Allan Joseph Terry, of Papawai, and Miss Ivy Paterson, daughter of Air. and Airs. Paterson, of Greytown, were married. The officiating minister was Air. Keatney, missioner. The bride was given away by her father. The bridesmaid was Aliss Evelyn Hills, of Woodside, and the best man was Air. Percy Hammond, of Papawai. The bride wore cream crepe de chine with a beautifully embroidered veil, the latter being'lent bv a sister of the bridegroom, Mrs. Afaclntosb. The bridesmaid wore floral cream silk lustre, with bat and shoes and stockings to match. The beautiful bouquets carried were made and presented by Airs. Reid, of Greytown. After the ceremony an adjournment was made to the Oddfellows’ Hall, where the cake was cut and the usual toasts were honoured. The newly-married .couple were the recipients of a number of presents and several telegrams of congratulation were received. Air. and Mrs. Terry left later on their bridal tour, and will return shortly to Air. Terry’s farm at Papawai.
