VIVIAN STREET BAPTIST CHURCH
The Sunday School anniversary services iu connection with the Vivian Street Baptist Church were held on Sunday and Wednesday last. At the morning service on Sunday, the Bev. B. J. Howie, 8.-A., gave an address to the children on “Pins,” and in the afternoon tho Bev. U. Eaton spoke on “Gloves/’ whilst at the evening service the minister (Bev. F. F. Harry) gave an address to parents on "Training Children." He pointed out that the training of parents was all important ioi the future of the nation, and then, with many apt illustrations, pointed put how children wore to be trained. Speaking of heredity, he quoted the saying that “Every man was an omnibus in which his ancestors were riding,” and urged parents to see to it that in their own lives, neither by example nor precept, they put stumbling-blocks iu the way ot little feet. Ho pleaded for a greater cultivation of home life, greater vigilance over the amusements and habits oh,the children, and a keener interest in child life generally. He deplored the decay of family worship, Bible reading, and church going, and urged his hearers to concentrate their attention, interest, and prayers on the rising generation Throughout the day the children and choir, under tho baton of Mr. Handel Grigg, with Mr. Charles Collins at the organ, sang special hymns and choruses with great precision and sweetness, to the delight of large audiences. On Wednesday the church hall was crowded to hear a delightful children’s entertainment, with satisfying reports concerning the school. Tho Rev. F. b. Harry presided, and Mr. John Pine, the superintendent, gave a bridf address.
