MAIN HIGHWAYS
LEVEL CROSSINGS DISCUSSED The Main Highways Board held its usual monthly meeting yesterday. Mr. C J. McKenzie presiding*. In connection with the elimination of railwav crossings the board resolved to take immediate steps to proceed with the deviation in' the Weka Pass, in North Canterbury, for the. purpose of eliminating the 'deviation in the pass. In the afternoon the board saw representatives of the Hutt County Council, when various matters of local interest were discussed. These included • question of the council’s contribution towards the elimination of the level crossing at Paraparaumu, and also the alignment of the main high■>v to the north of Lower Hutt. The board is leaving for a tour of the North Island on November 19, and proposes viewing the road from Lower Hutt northwards. On its return via the West Coast, it will take the opportunity, of irsnecting the Paraparaumu crossing, and of discussing on the ground the question of a contribution by the council. Tlie board was also interviewed by representatives of the Wellington Automobile Association, when various matters, in particular the question of road signs, were brought under the notice of the board. Several other matters, which the board will have an opportunity of looking into during its tour, were also brought forward by the representatives of the association.
