CHRISTCHURCH SENTENCES. Dominion Special. Christchurch, November 18. The following sentences-were imposed in the Supreme Court by Mr. Justice Stringer to-day Ernest Lc Comptc, three years for an indecent act at West Melton. Frederick Richardson James, five years for attempt to commit rape on a girl of 13 at Templeton. His Honour said that prisoner was lucky to escape a flogging. Edward Mahoney, for receiving, eighteen months. His Honour said that prisoner was on probation for forgery and needed a sharper lesson. Harry Percj' Rentoul Ramsbcitom Isherwood, six months,. for indecent assault, leniency being extended in view of his past- Frederick Richard Close, who admitted stealing goods valued at £6 7s. 6d. and 24 10s. from dwellings, was remanded till Monday to ascertain if the goods had beer, returned. Roy Walter Watts, for theft of a postal packet valued at 255., was admitted to probation for tkvo years, and ordered to pay £9 9s. costs. A youth, whose name was suppressed, for theft of a registered postal packet containing Tl 10s. 2/., was admitted to probation for two years and ordered to pay Tl 4s. costs. Cecil Jardcn (aged 17), for unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl 14 years of age, was admitted to probation for two years on condition that he paid the-costs of the prosecution. Tl 3 12s. His Honour said that Jarden had evidently been induced by the girl to commit the offence. William’ Watts (75), for assault on boys, three offences, was sentenced to tcii years’ imprisonment.
