Levin and Co., Ltd., Masterton, report that they held their second annual cattle fair in conjunction with the Associated Auctioneers in the Columba Hoad yards on Tuesday. The yarding was a big one, and practically all the cattle were absorbed by Wairarapa buyers. There was a noticeable absence of grown bullocks, the predominating lines being young steers and heifers. The cattle generally were in very backward condition, and no doubt this, in conjunction with the absence of any flush of cattle feed on the hill country, had a bad effect on the prices, and consequently prices generally were well below rates ruling at the first cattle fair in October. One of the outstanding lines of the offering was a line of 55 three-.voar-old l‘.A. steers offered on account of Mr. Hugh Morrison. These cattle realised £7 125.. similar cattle bringing up to £8 15s. in October The prices obtained by us were as follow:—Account Olendhu, 3 and 4-year steers. £7 to £7 75.; account 11. The condition generally was far below that usually shown at this time of the year. Competition for any lines of bullocks in good condition was keen, but for backward sorts the demand was not animated.
