MAYOR OF TIMARU
MR. WALLACE RE-ELECTED. Bt Telegraph. —Press Association. Timaru, November 18. The iftrough council unanimously reelected Mr. G. J. Wallace, who resigned on Monday last at the suggestion of the Audit Department, Mayor of Timaru. (Arising out of the fact that Mr. Wallace, did engineering work for the borough council nine months before be joined the council, the account for which (£l9) was paid after he became Mayor and had sold his business, the Auditor General wrote suggesting that he should refrain from exercising the function of Mayor or councillor till such time as he should have been re-elected, in which case no further action on the part of the Audit Department would be necessary. A formal resignation, it was stated, would facilitate adjustments of *lio position.]
