An offer of bis valuable collection of Dumas literature was made to the Auckland City Council by Mr. F. W. Reau, of Wbangarej (says an exchange), lue city librarian submitted a document tn which Mr. Iteed intimated Ins desire to present the collection to the Auckland Public Library, aud with that purpose in view vested the collection jointly in the possession of -the City Council and. himself with a proviso that he should retain eustodv until his death, after which the collection would become the solo property of the council. The collection comprises 700 items and contains also some 20 bound volumes of typed matter, consisting of translations made by Mr. Reed of such of Dumas’ works as had not previously been rendered into English. Mr. Reed intends to devote the rest of his life to translating more of Dumas’s works, which so far bare not been translated. A letter, with the seal nf the council, is to bo forwarded to Mr. Reed conveying the thanks of the city for his valuable gift.
