HUTT FLOWER SHOW

MAGNIFICENT DISPLAY OF ROSES EXCELLENT DECORATIVE WORK Beautiful specimens of roses were to bo seen in all their lloriil splendour at the Hutt Valiev Uorticuliurm Society's Summer Show, at the Lower Hutt yesterday All varieties .were artistically arranged in bowls and vases, while the decorative und cut flower exhibits, with their accompanying foliage, were a blaze of colour. The champion rose, exhibited by Mr. J. Ball, was one of the hybrid tea variety, and was a soft lemon coloured full-bodied bloom of rani-beauty. There was very little competition in the sweet pea section, the recent boisterous . weather having checked the growth of the plants to such au. extent that few were sufficiently advanced lot exhibition. Any deficiency ,of entries in the sweet pea classes, however, was more than compensated by the excellent exhibits in the other sections, the number of competitors being in excess of first .tear. The champion sweet pea was a pink bloom shown by Mb Westbury, One pleasing feature of the' show was the large number of amateur exhibitors, many of them competing with marked success against more experienced horticulturists. In addition to the competitive sections, there were, many roallj line exhibits for exhibition only, while the trade exhibits, containing many plants and shrubs of matchless beauty, added to the excellence of the display The show was opened by the Chief Justice (Hon. C. P. Skerrett), who con gratuJated the committee and , the exln bitors on the very fine display. Awards were made as follow:— Roses (Open Class).—24 roses, not less than 13 varieties: H.
