ROYAL SHOW A SUCCESS

BETTER THAN PRESIDENT EXPECTED CHOICE OF AUCKLAND 1 ' JUSTIFIED Dominion Special. Auckland, November 17. “Taking the Royal Show purely as a show ot stock, 1 think it has turned out far better, than I ever expected,’ said Mr. W. Perry, president of the Royal Agricultural Society. “There was a good deal of opposition to bringing the Royal Show to Auckland at all, but, as' an experiment, it has quite come up to expectations. I am glad to say I-was always in favour of Auckland being given a turn. Although the entries in some classes were more numerous in the south, it, was pleasing to find a very great deal of the beststock in New Zealand here. It is true there were onlv a few exhibits irom the South Island, but what there were certainlv were very representative of their particular breed. In evidence of that is the number of championships secured by the south for the small number of exhibits.” Questioned as to the venue m tne next Roval Show, Mr. Perry said the decision ’ would have to be made by the council, in view of which it was out of the question for him to express a premature opinion. It would, ot Course, be held somewhere in the South Island in accordance with the society a decision to aKernate the locale between the two islands. . ■ While the society, had been Hilly justified in coming to Auckland as an experiment, it would depend almost wholly on the feeling "among stock breeders as to what part rf the. South Island the next show would be in. If the breeders felt it would be- impossible to get good competition at anv one place on account <f ‘ransnort difficulties, that opinion would weigh almost exclusively with the council, ft had to be remembered in this • onnection that the expense incurred in coming to Auckland was heavy. Mr. Perry added that a welcome immovement in the weather assur’d the financial'success of the show. He.was. perfectly’ satisfied with ‘■o-dayQ attendance of the public, which would relieve evervone’s mind as to the financial nosit ion.
